Hurricane season can be a stressful time of the year. Hurricane season runs every year from June 1st through November 30th, with the peak of the season being in August and September.
Most storms start near Africa and develop as they head to the tropics. What happens next is often unpredictable. You can not wait until the last few days to start thinking about a plan. Hopefully, you secure your furniture before you leave, but if you did not, Lely Resort Home Watch is here to assist you.
PRE-STORM PREPARATION
- Move outdoor furniture into your garage, inside hurricane screened areas or house.
- Move any exterior items that can become airborne in strong winds to safety.
- Install storm shutters provide you give adequate advance notice.
- Move outdoor grill to garage or inside hurricane shuttered lanai, if possible, otherwise secure as best as possible.
POST-STORM PLAN
INITIAL INSPECTION AFTER STORM (WHEN SAFE TO DO SO)
- Perform a cursory storm inspection as soon as safe to do so. We will Identify and report major damage that needs immediate attention.
- Empty your refrigerator and freezer of all perishable items, shut off breaker and prop doors open until power is restored.
AFTER INITIAL INSPECTIONS ARE DONE AT ALL PROPERTIES
- Perform a high-level inspection of your home to determine all damage and report them to you immediately.
- Provide the homeowner with pictures of any damages.
- Perform a visual inspection and pictures of attic areas if accessible and safe to perform.
- Meet with insurance company or repair company, if necessary.
- Take down and return storm shutters to garage or other storage location.
